If you are not familiar with it, here is the main Victory Day hymn in Russia. The refrain says:
This Victory Day smells like gun powder
It is a celebration with grey hair on the temples
It is a joy with tears in our eyes...
On this day we try to remember those who lay down their lives for our peace and well-being. There is a great resource where one can find the reward documents for their relatives who took part in WWII. The most valuable part is the description of their deed. Last year we found my two grandfathers' reward documents and my boy was so proud to show it to his classmates.
В этот день мы стараемся помнить тех, кто положил жизнь для нашего мира и благополучия. Есть отличный ресурс, где можно найти наградные документы родственников, участвовавших в Великой Отечественной. Самая ценная часть в этом - это описание подвига. В прошлом году мы нашли документы двух моих дедушек, и мой сын с гордостью показывал их одноклассникам.
